The law defines a sports manager as a person authorised to perform intermediation for transfers of athletes from one sports club to another. This study programme encompasses a far wider spectrum of knowledge and skills necessary or a modern management and specific needs in various sports activities, clubs, federations, associations and the like. The study programme of Sports Management was conceptualised primarily for further development of athletes who are included, either during or after their sports careers, in sports business and management. Furthermore, the programme is also intended for recreational athletes, and all interested young people who wish to pursue a professional career in sports management in various branches of sports after their graduate from high school.
The curriculum of this professional study programme corresponds with the demands of modern sports and related activities (recreation, tourism, wellness, sports equipment, etc.). It is based on a high level of professionalism and a different approach to education in the new economy, which led to a high number of new study courses in the area of economics, such as Economics of Sports Organisations, Management in Sports, Recreation and Sports Industry, Management of Sports Organisations, Events and Facilities, Sports Marketing and others.
The design of the study programme took into high regard that the functioning of sports activities in the Republic of Croatia needs to adapt to the legal regulations of the EU countries.
