Business Economics and Sustainable Development

About

The postgraduate doctoral study programme of Business Economics and Sustainable Development is based on the Salzburg Principles according to which doctoral studies are given a central place in the European Research Area and the European Higher Education Area. The doctoral study programme fundamentally aims to provide competitive and applicable knowledge and research skills with a focus on business economics and sustainable development that includes global challenges related to the environment and climate change, natural resource management, and implications for effective sustainable business initiatives, governance, human rights and universal welfare. Furthermore, the program strives to educate experts who will be able to actively contribute to the design and implementation of new economic strategies and policies ensuring sustainable development during the 21st century within the framework of growing risks arising from climate change. Economic growth is necessary, but not sufficient for development.

Sustainable development has three dimensions: economic, social and environmental, and the issue of preservation and sustainable use of the environment as a lever of development is gradually being integrated into development policies. Such development cannot be achieved by technological solutions, political regulation or financial instruments only. It is necessary to change the way of thinking, as well as the practices of action. Such a change requires quality education and learning for sustainable development at all levels and in all social contexts and the promotion of awareness of “green growth”, a collaborative relationship with the community and the ecosystem, corporate sustainability, the economy of sharing and value creation, and the preservation of health.

This postgraduate doctoral programme offers the education and training of experts and scientists in high demand on the labour market, providing an integrated and comprehensive educational approach at the doctoral level, with an overall purpose to create internationally recognized and socially responsible researchers for the needs of the development of science and society as a whole.
